    Patterning ferroelectric domain to engineer device is among the most exciting research areas in optics and electrophotonics. It has enabled efficient laser frequency conversion, entangled photon-pair source, random access memory and more. In this report I demonstrate an all-optical method that employs femtosecond infrared laser pulses to overcome drawbacks of traditional methods for ferroelectric domain patterning. This infrared optical method allowed us to fabricate a quasi-phase matching (QPM) structure in a LiNbO3 channel waveguide for frequency doubling of laser light with a wavelength of 815 nm. The measured second harmonic conversion efficiency is 17.5%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first realization of frequency conversion in an all-optically poled ferroelectric crystal.

  盛艳,光学专业博士,现为澳大利亚堪培拉澳大利亚国立大学物理与工程研究学院激光物理中心研究员。于20077月获得中国科学院物理研究所博士学位致力于研究非线性介质界面的光学效应,并发明称之为Cerenkov二次谐波显微镜,成功可以实现铁电材料的直观三维可视化。20103月加入澳大利亚国立大学激光物理中心,担任ARC APD研究员至今。共发表期刊论文65余篇,论文总引800次,做国际会议报告32次。长期担任Physical Review Letters, Optics Letters, Applied Physics Letters, Optics Express, Physical Review APhysical Review B 等高水平学术期刊的审稿人。与澳大利亚,德国,法国,西班牙,瑞典,以色列和中国多个研究小组建立长期合作
